Congressional Art Competition

Congressman Steve Kagen MD WI-8 is pleased to announce the 2010 Congressional Art Competition. This year marks the 30th Anniversary of the Congressional Art Competition, sponsored by the Congressional Art Caucus. The exhibition "An Artistic Discovery" will feature exceptional artwork from all 435 congressional districts.

The Congressional Art Competition is open to all high school students (grades 9 to 12) who reside in Wisconsin‘s 8th Congressional districts and attend school, homeschooled or are enrolled in an art program.

Entries must be designed in accordance with the Guidelines set forth by the Congressional Art Caucus. All entries must be submitted to one of our district offices no later than, Thursday April 15th  A district wide competition will be held late morning on SATURDAY, APRIL 24TH, 2010 the Neville Museum, Green Bay, WI. The winner will be announced at a reception beginning around 11:30 a.m. following the judging.

The winning piece will join winners of other Congressional districts throughout the United States and hang in the Cannon Tunnel for a period of one year. The Cannon tunnel leads to the United States Capitol building in Washington DC. Thousands of visitors as well as members the House and Senate pass through the Cannon Tunnel and view these works of art.

On June 17, 2010 in Washington DC, the artist and a guest will be invited to attend a Congressional reception to honor the 2010 student winners The winner of our Wisconsin 8th Congressional will also be eligible to receive a scholarship from Savannah College of Art and Design in Savannah, Georgia. 

 The remaining entries will hang in the Neville Museum ( AAM Accredited Museum) until Sunday, June 6th.  Visitors of the Museum will have the opportunity to view our districts artistic talent.

We look forward to providing an opportunity for artists of the 8th Congressional District to show case their talent and we hope to help foster and inspire their growth.
