KAGEN  HAILS  DECISION AGAINST  ILLEGAL  IMPORTED  PAPER

WASHINGTON D.C.- Congressman Steve Kagen, M.D. released the following statement commending the U.S. International Trade Commission’s decision to impose tariffs on paper being imported from China and Indonesia.

"This is a great day for Appleton Coated and for the goal of establishing balanced trade deals with China that ship our values overseas instead of our jobs," Congressman Kagen said when notified of the International Trade Commission decision today to immediately impose tariffs on Chinese and Indonesian paper imports.

"What is it about illegal that China does not understand?  China and Indonesia must begin to play by the rules," Dr. Kagen said.  "I will continue to work hard to level the playing field for companies like Appleton Coated, and I’m pleased to have helped them keep these higher wage jobs."

The ITC preliminarily determined that Chinese and Indonesian producers and exporters have received net countervailable subsidies ranging from 3.92 to 12.83 percent, and 17.48 percent, respectively.  As a result of these determinations, the Department of Commerce will impose tariffs on imports of coated paper to offset the unfair advantage provided by subsidization.
