  • Mobile Oral Health Clinic for the Northeast Wisconsin Technical College (NWTC) in Green Bay, WI ($175,000) – The funding will go for NWTC to purchase a Mobile Dental Clinic (a built-out RV) for use in the northern parts of Northeast Wisconsin where dental clinics and facilities are rare.  Although NWTC students provide some oral healthcare to adults in Northeast Wisconsin, access for many is limited.  The Mobile Oral Health Clinic would include three dental exam rooms, dental radiography, and a medical laboratory.  It is expected that at least 750 uninsured low-income adults and children will be served annually throughout Northeast Wisconsin.  Requested by NWTC for Fiscal Year 2008.
  • Peter Christensen Health Center (PCHC) dental practice – Lac du Flambeau Band of Lake Superior Chippewa Indians in Wisconsin ($171,000) – These funds will be used by the Peter Christensen Health Center (PCHC) for the Lac du Flambeau Band of Lake Superior Chippewa Indians to allow the dental clinic to accommodate more staff in conjunction with the growth of the overall facility.  It would help meet the needs of the Tribe, who rely on PCHC for all their dental needs by improving the quality and quantity of care available.  The project would also provide increased access to dental care for Medical Assistance patients – who are underserved in the area.  Requested by the Lac du Flambeau Band of Lake Superior Chippewa Indians in Wisconsin.
  • College of Menominee Nation – Health Center ($86,000) – The funding will be used by the College of Menominee Nation to construct a community driven Health Care Education and Research Center that will feature a wide array of energy saving and sustainable technologies as well as wood products grown locally in the Menominee Indian Tribe’s sustainable managed forests.  Requested by the College of Menominee Nation.
  • Congressman Kagen introduced the Rural Veterans Health Care Access Act (H.R. 4123), which would create a pilot program to allow vets living more than 30 miles from a Department of Veterans Affairs facility with a licensed mental health provider to receive vouchers to pay for counseling at a licensed private facility.
  • Representative Kagen supported passage of the Energy Independence Act (H.R. 3221), which contained a 15% renewable electricity standard for the entire nation by 2020.  It would also increase funding for biofuel research.
  • The Congressman has repeatedly advocated for Impact Aid, which offers payments to Northern counties – Oconto, Langlade, Forest, Florence, Vilas, Oneidawhose tax base is made smaller because of the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Park.
  • Improvements to U.S. Highway 70 in Oneida County and Vilas County, WI ($712,500) – These funds would be used to rehabilitate the pavement from the Price/Oneida County line to Silver Beach Drive and replacing culverts, signs, and guardrails in the corridor.  In addition, the funding will upgrade roadway geometrics to current standards and address drainage issues in the corridor from Silver Beach Drive to the Vilas/Oneida County line.  This stretch of USH 70 runs through the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest and serves as a recreational and business link for northern Wisconsin.  Requested by WisDot for Fiscal Year 2009.
